Janet Montgomery started for the women's basketball team from 1974 through 1978, enjoying a stellar career in which she dumped in 927 points and snared 677 rebounds.

As a freshman in 1974-1975, Montgomery led the squad in scoring and rebounding en route to securing the Coaches Award as the team's most valuable player. Her 35 points versus St. John's University that season established the program's single game scoring mark.

Montgomery also led the club in scoring and rebounding in 1975-1976, a year in which they posted a 15-5 mark, followed by the team's initial postseason appearance.

The forward was plagued by injuries as a junior, yet still managed to snag 5.4 rebounds for a 16-4 squad that also qualified for the EAIAW Tournament.

Montgomery captained the team as a senior, finishing third in scoring and rebounding while leading the Squires (now Cougars) to their third consecutive postseason berth.

After leading her teams to a combined 51-26 record over four seasons, Montgomery was honored with the 1978 D'Angola Award, presented annually to Kean's outstanding male and female athlete.

Montgomery earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in fine arts/studio from Kean in 1978.
